Local news station WVIR NBC29 came out to my studio yesterday and did a really nice piece on my recent win in the Design the Can contest by Mike’s HARDER. Check out the clip in the link below!

Our local newspaper, The Daily Progress, also included a little bit on me as well:

    Tiger’s Blood In Stores Now!

Underwater Tiger | Client: Mike's HARDER

My illustration for Mike’s HARDER is in stores across the country this month! It’s one of three limited edition collectors’ cans for their new seasonal drink Tiger’s Blood. This is of course a very different style than my editorial and children’s work, but I felt it was better in this case to go in a different direction visually. It’s actually very much in line with my sketchbook drawing style, so it wasn’t such a big stretch for me. In any case, I’m really pumped to see my art in stores for such a big brand like Mike’s!

The Daily Progress, our local paper, even gave me a mention! http://www.dailyprogress.com/neighbors/article_6b9b7f8b-2616-593d-9e21-cf4de6ae662d.html

Awhile back, I attempted to take on the “21 Day Drawing Challenge“, from Lynda.com’s Von Glitschka. I started off quite impressively (You can see my Day 1 drawing here.) but very quickly found myself wanting to use this opportunity to experiment with color and brushes in Photoshop. Which meant that I was going to need to spend a little more time on them. I also had the good fortune of becoming pretty busy with actual paying work within just a few days of starting the challenge. In the end, I’ve decided to settle on turning it into “21 Inspirational Drawing Prompts That You Should Totally Do When You Have A Few Spare Moments.

The illustrations below are from the day five challenge, which was to draw three different versions of a character (I chose Bigfoot), refining the design each time. Not sure if I “refined” so much as “completely redesigned,” but I had fun and I think at least the first two came out really well.

Climate Action Puzzle | TEDx talk by Dr Cara Augustenborg

I recently had the honor of contributing an illustration to a TEDx talk given in Ireland by client and friend, Dr Cara Augustenborg. Her talk was on the need to shift our focus from dwelling on climate change as a problem to focusing instead on the positive climate action already being taken, and replicating that where we live. I had the task of coming up with a climate puzzle, with each piece representing one of six main areas where we need to take positive climate action. Each piece was then used in Dr Augustenborg’s slide show as an icon for each of these topics.

  • Custom Skis

    Custom Skis

I recently did an illustration for an article that appeared in Utah Adventure Journal about an outdoor guy, Brian McKenna, with a larger-than-life personality who ended up becoming paralyzed in a bike accident. (You can read the article here.) I found myself moved by the friendship expressed in the article, and resolved to make my illustration live up to such a personality. After the article ran, one of Brian’s friends who was with him in the South American scene I illustrated, asked if he could pay me to use the art to have a custom pair of skis made in Brian’s honor. I was extremely flattered by the request. Not only that, but he was kind enough to share photos of the process of getting his custom skis made by the good folks over at Wagner Custom Skis.
