Promotional designs for the launch of a new book by author Otis Lee titled The Last Train From Djibouti. Otis will be attending many book events and needed a variety of promotional items, from flyers (shown above) to bookmarks, business cards, and several event table displays. I was glad that Otis came to me with a clear idea for everything he needed to be designed as it made it easy for me to keep a consistent look for everything.

Illustrated map of Africa. Highlights the train route taken from Djibouti to Ethiopia along with two other countries visited- Uganda and Botswana.

The illustrated map of Africa was my personal favorite among the event table displays. Otis wanted something colorful that also highlighted both the train route they took as well as the various countries that they visited. My solution was to do a map featuring Africa’s temperate zones from arid to jungle while showing the visited countries in purple for nice color contrast. In addition to giving visual interest, it also helps give the viewer a better sense of what the landscape would look like for each of the places described in the book.

I had an opportunity to delve into the wonky world of isometric illustration recently when a client approached me to design an illustrated instruction manual. While I’ve utilized isometric perspective before, I’ve never used it quite this extensively or with this level of precision. I would say it was a very demanding, but also very rewarding assignment.

The illustrated ad campaign I’ve been working on for the past couple of months came to its dramatic conclusion last week in Wonder Realtor Part 6: C-ville’s Best Realtor 2017. My client, Heather Griffith of Nest Realty, was nominated for the title and wanted to do a series of fun, comic book style ads to encourage voting. I’m so happy to have my work appear in C-ville Weekly’s much-loved annual Best of C-ville issue. It’s such a great resource for discovering new places to eat or shop, and is the one issue people in Charlottesville hang on to. I am also pleased that the ad celebrates a happy and diverse community, particularly in the wake of our recent tragedy. C-ville Weekly’s annual Best of C-ville for 2017 is on stands now.

Here’s part two of a four-part ad series, The Adventures of Heather Griffith Wonder Realtor, for Nest Realty of Charlottesville. Heather’s in the running for Best Realtor in C-ville Weekly’s yearly Best of C-ville issue, and decided to do a whole series of fun comic book style ads while voting is taking place. (You can see part one here.)

I was contacted recently by local Charlottesville business Nest Realty to do a series of comic book style ads for realtor Heather Griffith. Heather has had the honor of being nominated as Charlottesville’s best realtor in C-ville Weekly’s yearly Best of C-ville issue. Voting takes place this month, and to help inspire voters, Heather asked me to illustrate four comic book style ads highlighting the heroic lengths she goes to for her many happy clients. I have to say, this may be my favorite assignment I’ve gotten so far this year and I’m really looking forward to working on the next three ads!

Here’s a shot of the ad from the current issue of C-ville. It’s been awhile since I’ve illustrated or designed anything for a newspaper, and I’m so happy everything came out well. The colors are bright, and the text is sharp. Stay tuned for the further adventures of Heather Griffith, Wonder Realtor!

Illustrated a fun little infographic for the good folks over at DoodyCalls.com. They have a great cartoon mascot dog named Doodles, who lends himself really well to a wide variety of advertising, promotional products, and PSA’s, and is fun to draw. Plus, I get to type the word “poop” a lot and get paid for it!

Coal Ash Ponds Map: Blue Ridge Outdoors

Map highlighting coal plants that pose a threat to local drinking water in and around the Blue Ridge Mountains. I was happy to learn that I don’t live near any coal ash ponds, but am quite sad to see just how many of these power plants pose a significant or higher hazard rating. I’m not sure how it works for the coal industry, but I generally want my clients to be healthy and happy and to feel good about the work I do for them. Remember kids: A living customer is a paying customer!
